The Jacksonville Beaches are comprised of a string of discrete communities from Mayport and Atlantic Beach to the north, south to Neptune Beach, then Jacksonville Beach proper, all the way down to Ponte Vedra Beach. Separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal Waterway, the beaches are home to the Jacksonville Naval Air Station (NAS) Mayport, one of the largest U.S. Navy Bases on the Atlantic Coast. Mayport Beaches, in particular, are popular for picnicking and gathering areas, and campgrounds just a short walk to the beach. Kathryn Abbey Hanna has about 450 acres of natural, undisturbed coastal dunes, more than 15 miles of wooded biking trails, and more than three hundred campsites for tent and RV camping. Some of the more popular Jacksonville Beaches condos include The Waterford, Surfside and the Water’s Edge.
